In the ASXP application, under Options / Simulator Depiction options, you should find a Use SkyMaxx Pro depiction mode option in recent versions of ASXP. Note: This review was based on SkyMaxx Pro v5.05 which is the latest version available of the plugin at the time of making this review. Presently, I feel the SkyMaxx Pro is the best real looking weather package available for XPlane 11.25. Skymaxx is purely a visual upgrade, does not change the metar transitions. I have Xenviro 1.09, ActiveSky, and the SkyMaxx Pro package (the package includes FSGRW with weather connect). The thing is the default clouds look great imo except for that damned flickering. Also Ive heard from around the web that xenviro really isnt that great either. To me the clouds in skymaxx look more like fog than clouds - you know, more diffuse with no definition. No biggy I can make that way bigger with Skymaxx.
I got this setup generally where it is decent, climbed to 30k feet and noticed the cloud draw distance that plagues default X-plane. I wasn't thrilled with the weather it offers out of the box (it's basically cloud replacements).SO I purchased active sky XP and also fired up my old x-vision presets, to try and get the atmosphere back on track. You will never see billboard slidings with xAmbience Pro. We also fixed the biggest problem in X-Plane 11 - sliding billboard clouds. For reference stock, X-plane will hit 70+fps easy on my machine. However, It runs at 30-40 FPS if it's lucky and even though the sim reports 30fps, it still seems to have a micro stutter. Here's what I wrote recently about 圎nviro in another thread: 'I'm daily driving ASXP+UWXP (Ultra Weather, which enhances visuals), but use 圎nviro as well occasionally. I think it looked decent and had good features. Active Sky (ASXP) is just weather generation (no change in visuals) while 圎nviro does weather generation and visuals. Skymaxx is purely a visual upgrade, does not change the metar transitions. So I re-installed X-plane after waiting for FS2020 (because I upgraded my machine and started fresh) and re-installed 圎nviro 1.13 having last tried it before volumetric clouds. Stable internet connection (broadband recommended) OpenGL 3.
Just throwing it out there for anyone who is curious, and also looking for suggestions. Active Sky XP is an online product that will require the creation of a new user account.
